Deuteronomy 7:22

22 aThe Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little. You may not make an end of them at once,
Or quickly
lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you.

Joshua 15:63

Joshua 16:10

10However, fthey did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites have lived in the midst of Ephraim to this day but have been made gto do forced labor.

Joshua 17:12-13

12 hYet the people of Manasseh could not take possession of those cities, but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land. 13Now when the people of Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites ito forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out.

Judges 3:1-4

1 jNow these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan. 2It was only in order that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, to teach war to those who had not known it before. 3These are the nations: kthe five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as Lebo-hamath. 4They were for lthe testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
